A treat for the soul: Checking in Manna Bay, Cape Town

We arrived in Cape Town with no expectations. Not only it was our first time in the city, but also our first time in Africa -except for our trip in Mauritius. South Africa. A whole new world, for us. Everything's different and exciting. First stop in Cape Town: the hotel -just to take a shower and drop the bags. We got there, and realized Manna Bay might be a little bit more than just a hotel...

Hotel in Cape Town: Manna Bay Boutique Hotel

Our stay in Cape Town couldn't have started any better. With its incredible views on the city and its interior design worthy of an art gallery, Manna Bay is one of Cape Town's trendiest boutique address. From the minute you arrive and make your way over the mosaic floor of the entrance, you feel like being in a movie -it's all so perfect!

Checking in one of the best hotels in cape town

We've landed in Cape Town airport tired, impatient, curious and excited -mostly excited. Picked up our tiny little car, then head to our hotel, situated at the foot of Table Mountain. The road is beautiful. We get to Oranjezicht, a lovely neighborhood where little streets are fringed with trees and beautiful houses. Then here it is, standing on the lower slopes of the mountain: Manna Bay.

It's still early, so we have time to chill by the pool with an ice tea before exploring the city. We meet the staff, who kindly helps us with advices about what to see in Cape Town. We let our bags at the reception, and go hit the road -Caaape Town!

Cape Town is incredible. We've only been here a few hours, wandering around on the sea front, and we already fell in love. But being a bit jet-lag and above all, very intrigued by this "High Tea" Manna Bay's staff told us about earlier, we decide to get back to our luxurious hotel to recover from the flight and celebrate our arrival in South Africa...

Our black & white room

In Manna Bay, each bedroom is a masterpiece of interior design. There are 8 rooms with 8 different themes -art lovers, you gonna LOVE it- : Versailles, Flamingo, Pom Pom, Persian, Oriental, Orchid, Explorer and Black and White. I was pretty excited to discover which one we'd get... BLACK & WHITE it is!

The decoration is incredible, black and white from floor-to-ceiling, with stunning photographs of South Africa, massive zebra patterns, white orchids...

After a quick shower in our giant bathroom, we get down to see that "High Tea" we've been told about...

Chocolate and strawberries by the pool

A massive buffet awaits with salmon canapés, quiches, pastries, fresh fruits, chocolate cake and plenty of sweet and savory treats. Care for another glass of champagne? Relaxing in my lounge chair on the terrasse, we feel so lucky to be here we could almost feel some guilt! Then tea time is followed by a long jet-lag-nap with a view on Table Mountain. Welcome in South Africa...

A constant discovery

The architecture is very unique. Manna Bay is created around different atmospheres, from the zen garden with koi carps and papyrus plants, the laid-back rooftop terrace with giant bean bags, the minimalist gym all-white, the colorful library with many cushions and pieces of art, the stunning staircase with illustrations on the wall and gorgeous view on Cape Town in the background...

Like it would be in a museum, there's a lot to discover in Manna Bay, many hidden treasures...

Next morning, we wake up with the most extraordinary view on Cape Town. The kind of view you only see in movies. It was unbelievable -thanks to our jet-lag, we even had the chance to see the sun rising on the city. Very special.

breakfast is served with a view in manna bay

We get down the breakfast area early, excited about discovering Cape Town. 'We'll just get a quick breakfast and hit the road'. In the dining room: a massive array of fresh lemonade, juices, all kind of bread, berries, cheese, ham, cereals, honey... Anything you could have hope for your dream breakfast. Plus a chef ready to cook you a hot breakfast (oh, the Eggs Benedicts!). -So I guess we have time for breakfast...

From the terrace, the view is gorgeous. The Lion's Head, the city and the ocean, all the way to Bloubergstrand. The visibility is perfect. It's so quiet, so delicious, it's close to perfection -it's one of the best homemade breakfast we've had -with the one in Maison 557 in Cambodia.

Before we leave, we meet Mitch, the General Manager of Manna Bay. He loves Cape Town and South Africa so much, the more we talk with him, the more we get excited about our trip! A glass of homemade lemonade, a few berries and some more travel advices later, we finally hit the road.

Hotel in Cape Town: Manna Bay Boutique Hotel

Our stay in Manna Bay was sensational. Not only because of the luxury, the staff, the views and the food. As an artist, I loved loved LOVED the interior design. I felt like living in an art gallery for a while, and that's what makes Manna Bay standing out from any other hotel in Cape Town.

This stay wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support of The Manna Bay team. However all above written expresses our own opinion and has not been influenced. Our trip in Cape Town was made of beautiful surprises, and Manna Bay was one of them. Check out their Facebook page if you want to dream a bit.
